Volunteer Opportunities

Prayer-Flag1We welcome individuals and groups to assist once, ongoing or to be "on call" depending on their availability and our needs.

Our volunteer needs are varied, many and they change constantly. Our hope is that each individual or group who volunteers will benefit in their own way from the experience. All volunteers will be offered and encouraged to take a brief tour so they will have a better understanding of what we do here and how their service will be of value.

These are some of the ways volunteers typically contribute:

  • Facilitating Groups (see Support Group Training – training required)
  • Ongoing Help in and around The Sharing Place: Program prep, office help, technology, organizing, cleaning, room maintenance, building maintenance, sewing, crafting, building etc.
  • Fund Raising (see Happenings)
  • Marketing: Helping to get the word out about our programs and services.
  • Seasonal Projects: Seasonal lawn, yard, memory garden care, memory mural additions, deep cleaning, window washing, snow removal, raking leaves etc.
  • Board of Directors and Community Advisory Board
  • Program Committee
  • Colors of Life Committee: Main fundraiser in late September
  • Custom projects for Eagle Scouts, individuals or small and large groups

Those who volunteer at The Sharing Place are not only the heart and soul of the program we offer; they are also (excuse the expression) the blood and guts! We have a small part time staff, our director is our only full time employee. Our volunteers, the people who for what ever reason share their time and energy to keep The Sharing Place safe, organized and clean and/or to help in other ways to benefit the families who come here for grief support, are highly praised and appreciated.

The Sharing Place Experience

The “intake” or interview to attend The Sharing Place was very enlightening to me. The girls cried and showed open emotion even at this first exposure. I believe they “felt” the safe place it was for sharing emotion. I was actually surprised to see my daughter cry at this time as she was very withdrawn.
